User talk:Tritus/settlement
I fixed the noinclude issue, you had forgotten the closing tag. The idea of including sections in the suggested code is good, but it won't work as well with a TOC. The first text underneath the template should be without a heading, just a sentence or two summarizing the village. Typically name, size, server and location. This handles location, so maybe make that "How to get here" instead. Similarly, description can be merged in with history. Hard to get one size fits all here.
Making the caption colored is not a problem to me. Maybe even make it a different color? I don't feel elders fit into the template, though. Naming people to contact is a useful thing, but we should call it something more informative than elders. I'm also thinking it might fit just as well in the introductory paragraph, but we'll see. - Dashiva 04:55, 28 September 2008 (CDT)
- Typically name, size, server and location.
- But this is in the info box so no real point repeating that data? And if they are part of the default info then maybe the info box should have the server added after the village name in brackets? eg (JK), (W), (MR) with default linking to the server description pages?
- How to get here. That I like much better than my own Location idea since, as I mention elsewhere, I am not widely travelled and that is something that I would prsonally find a useful thing.
- I see the point about Contacts as opposed to Elders as well though, in a sense would not the elders normally be those people?
- This would leave default copy paste headings as How To get Here, Description, Trade, Elders (if not put into the info box), Citizens?
- I am wary of making changes atm (ie until what changes to be made are clear) since I feel I got my knuckles wrapped on this and am now being overviewed. But I do understand that I did unwittingly tread on one of the guideline in my attempt to implement a change that would affect every page in the Settlement category.
- It's a hierarchy thing. You have an introductory sentence which starts the page, and this often includes a few things in the infobox. It's not there as much to provide information as it is just to introduce the page, and whatever the villagers consider the key aspects of their village. The infobox has brief info that is applicable to most or all villages and has some use to outsiders. The rest of the page is whatever. For a dictatorship with a big-ego mayor, I can imagine the mayor being mentioned in all three sections. :-)
- On contacts and elders, they may well be the same in many cases, but it's also possible to have elders who only deal with internal village matters, especially in larger villages. Maybe you have dedicated recruiters, even. So I feel that elders isn't a good enough fit.
- Ok I see that, hadnt occurred to me. Tritus
- Keep in mind that this page is in your user space, so you can change it as much as you want. When you have something that looks good (or you want help making it look better, or whatnot) you can post on the actual template asking for feedback. And for the example block in particular, changing that won't affect other pages, so it's less of an issue with updates. - Dashiva 11:36, 2 October 2008 (CDT)
- When you say change as much as I want .. does that mean that the changes will be invisible on the Recent Changes page? I am rather in the habit of using forum style editing, though I have been trying to use the preview button since I was asked to. Tritus 02:06, 3 October 2008 (CDT)
