Are the materials used confirmed? --Ketza 10:56, 27 June 2006 (CDT)
- Past confirmed. Made an 8.1QL compass using 1.9W olive oil (incidentally the amount a pottery jar holds), a pottery jar, and a needle. --Joshu 06:36, 28 June 2006 (CDT)

Thunderstruck :D note:Sry its fucked up it was late at night and cant be F***ed fixing it
Olive Oil Amount
Someone please doublecheck the amount of oil a compass uses - I used 1.9kg, it may just use all available oil above a certain weight, in which case a decanting method to minimize oil overusage should be outlined somewhere on this page.
heh. I used 0.1 --Uzetaab 10:01, 28 June 2006 (CDT)
It seems that the amount of oil used has been changed. No matter how much oil you activate, it only uses 0.06kg of it. Discon 06:05, 13 March 2007 (CDT)
If you put one potato and one corn in a Pottery Flask and add oil it will give you exactly 0.06kg of oil. Usefull to minimize waste if you ruin oil with low ql experiments. -- Schwanke
skills involved?
Anyone know what skills are involved in making the compass? I doubt it purely depends on the ql of the needle and the unfinished compass.

Notes to add
I used 24 50 ql jars and varying olive oil and needle ql and came to the following conclusions:
Unfinished compasses come out at different weights. Olive oil affect the initial creation percent as well as the unfinished compass ql. An unfinished compass will never come out more than double the ql of the olive oil. Adding a needle will add a random amount of ql to the compass.
So it seems that olive oil and jar ql has the biggest impact on creating a compass. However, I did have a compass just 20 ql from adding a 68ql needle so having all components be high ql is important.
Can anyone else confirm or deny any of this as well? I will do further testing as well.
