Talk:Volume
Does Liter look better then cubic decimeter? I thought Liter was purely a liquid measurement, but Wikipedia corrected me. I'm not sure how many others this will get confused when measuring solid objects with L.
(weight per volume, kg/L) is only useful with dealing with dragging containers and even then its not that useful. Why, the character's inventory volume is unlimited. Weight you can put in a container not in inventory is also unlimited. This measurement is true but its not useful, and because of its utility it should be towards the bottom of the page. It wouldn't hurt if it started with warning about the utility of the information. We should not waste peoples time with information that is almost useless.
All containers, including bulk storage bins, are limited by the container's available volume. As an example, when dealing with a bulk storage bin, you divided the bin's 16,000 L with an items L. Further, 2,000 cotton fits in a bulk storage bin (16,000 L / 8 L-per-cotton).
Here is another explanation. Volume is a measurement of how much space an item occupies and is measured by Litre. Volume is a hidden measurement that isn't displayed in game. As you can see from the chart below, different items consume different amounts of volume. All containers are ridged and whether they are empty, consume their max storage volume when placed inside another container. We are usually answering the question, "how much of this container's space will this item consume; and consequently, how many of that item fit in the container". To calculate this relationship, dived the container's available L space by an item's L. Remember all but bulk storage containers are limited to 100 items in that specific container, but you can stack containers inside of another container to get more inside. An example would be corn in jars in a small barrel. Here a small barrel will hold 2,227 corn ((22 jars x 100 corn) + (.5 L / .018 L-per-corn)instead of the 100 corn that would fit without the jars.
Also, there is a chart on the bulk storage bin page, is the format not acceptable or something?
