This spell stores favor in gems, depending on the QL of the gem and your current amount of favor.
You need at least 7.5 favor to begin to cast Vessel. The cost of the cast is 5 favor. Any remaining favor is stored in the gem and the priest may gain channeling skill. Once charged, the gem is renamed to "Radiant [gem type]." Vessel cannot be cast on "Radiant" gems.
No favor is stored if the gem is less than 10QL. Instead, the cast uses 5 favor and the priest may still gain channeling skill. The gem loses 3QL or is destroyed if less than 3QL.
Favor Used to Fill a Gem
The amount of favor used to completely fill a gem with favor completely is the QL plus 5. For example, so a 20QL gem would require 25 favor to fill completely.
Notes
Although you can vessel Vessel a gem only once, you can use it over and over until it's empty. A gem over 50ql can potentially fill your favor multiple times.
You can vessel repeatedly Vessel and use a gem more than once if you don't fill it up completely. This is crucial when grinding channeling and getting the most casts out of a gem.
For example, if you start casting Vessel at 7.5 favor you will charge the gem with approximately 5 favor. (gaining 10 favor on use, reducing the QL by 5)
* The longer you wait to cast and the more favor you have at the start of your cast will result in filling the gem with more favor.
A Priest can not store a linked priest's favor when vesseling gems over 10ql. (You store your own, but not the linked priestspriest's)
However, the cost of the cast (5 Favor) will be taken from the linked priest. This can be helpful when vesseling many gems that are less than 10QL, giving a larger favor pool to pull from.
