== Usage ==
* Used primarily for [[mining]]and [[prospect]]ing.* It is rather effective as a [[weapon]] compared to other tools, but should in the absence of a real weapon.* May be disregarded once the [[playeractivate]] has access d to proper weaponrysee if a mine tile is flat or not and also [[slope]] levels on tile borders as with a [[shovel]].

* There is no penalty for failure in creation of an iron pickaxe.
* Note that there are 3 versions of the pickaxe: :* - Normal [[iron]] version which can be improved.:- Wooden 'newbie' starter pickaxe which cannot be [[improve]]d but does [[nodrop|not drop]] upon [[death]]. :* Normal iron version which can be improved. :* - [[Crude pickaxe]] which can be created with a pickaxe head [[Pickaxe head (stone)|made of stone]].  Unstable Build 2.7.0-2286 (6th Jan 2010), pickaxes will show the current slope up or down in the same manner of shovels. Unknown skill required.Needed 15 shovel skill before I could see slope with pickaxe equiped. 20:25, 22 November 2011 (UTC)

Pickaxes with rare and above properties have been seen to mine fasterand produce ores of quality above the player or vein's upper cap limit.
Scalorn - 2013/08/22 - I made a supreme pickaxe and noticed it was returning +3.0 ql higher than the cap of the iron vein. The capped vein was 69, ore returned was 72. This was with 90 mining and a 65ql supreme pickaxe.
