It's highly valued for its rarity, extremely light weight, and superior protection properties. Its defense rating equals that of steel [[plate armour]]. It has the lowest penalty to [[walking]] and [[attack]] speed after [[cloth armour]]. [[Encumbered|Unencumbered]], you can reach walking speeds of 16.97 km/h on [[road]]s. It provides a damage reduction of 70 % at 100 [[quality]].
You will need to use a needle on a piece of [[drake hide]] of sufficient [[weight]]. Drake hide can now only be obtained by being in [[Local]] range, and having [[premium ]] time, when a [[dragon]] hatchling is being slain. Drake hide can be traded with other players, and the pieces can be [[combine]]d. Drake hide armour is very difficult to create and to [[improve]].
Drake hide armour is often worn with a [[steel]] [[great helm]] instead, because a drake hide cap does not protect your [[Item:face|face]] and eyes, and face [[wound]]s always cause high amounts of damage.
