Back When JKH/MRH where still going you could create a Fountain (container) inside of a very small container. Some of these "sauce pan fountains" still exist. You can fill containers in inventory with liquid and exceed the normal inventory weight limits. So, fill a pan fountain with dye from another fountain, turn around and paint the boat.
