Doesn't lava spider coal make bigger steel lumps? If that's true, we should note that, as well as the weight produced by each combination. - Dashiva 11:09, 11 June 2008 (CDT)

Lava spider/fiend charcoal weighs 1.5 kg while normal charcoal weighs 0.5 kg (uncombined).

1 kg iron + 0.5 kg charcoal = 0.4 kg steel.

3 kg iron + 1.5 kg charcoal = 1.2 kg steel.

You can combine iron/coal into any weight you want if you want to make steel faster, but you gain less skill. Iron and coal ratio is 2:1 as seen above. --Swedish Phoenix 12:26, 11 June 2008 (CDT)

Clarifying this based on what I've found.
* One regular charcoal (0.50 kg) requires 1.00 kg iron to produce 0.40 kg steel.
* One lava spider charcoal (1.50 kg) requires 2.00 kg iron to produce 0.60 kg steel.
* Less iron prevents creation. More iron is simply wasted. [Might have an effect on QL, unknown.]
* Combining charcoal simply multiplies the numbers. 1.00 kg regular charcoal needs 2.00 kg iron and gives 0.80 kg steel.
So lava spider charcoal is less effective for mass production, but it is unknown how this affects QL. - Dashiva 19:59, 30 August 2008 (CDT)

Note: using too much iron results in the message "The amount of iron lump is too big." rather than discarding the excess. This will not create any steel as a result. --FreakTrap 22:45, 14 November 2008 (CST)
