: It's a bit more complicated. Clay and pottery aren't item materials in the game mechanics sense; rather there are specific items 'clay bowl' and 'pottery bowl'. On the other hand, iron and silver are materials, and 'iron bowl' is just the item 'bowl' made with the material iron. It is possible to see which items use materials by clicking the ''What's this?'' link. So in practice there are three items: clay bowl, pottery bowl and bowl (made with a certain metal).
